The Active Travel Cafe is a friendly, weekly, online forum for people to share and connect about all things active and sustainable transport.
We run 1700-18.15pm every Tuesday (with breaks around the main school holidays) and attract a variety of people from across the UK.
We always include discussion of latest news - including inviting people to share what's going on where they are - as well as one interesting guest speaker each week - with plenty of time for questions and chat. Check out their YouTube channel for past episodes
A podcast podcast dedicated to all things cycling, walking and wheeling, in the UK and beyond. Cities around the world are finally discovering the pitfalls of a car-centric transport system, with the most progressive cities implementing protected cycle lanes, liveable streets and low traffic neighbourhoods for improved cycling and walking. Each episode, we discuss the news and views in the fast-paced world of active travel, cycling, walking and urban planning in a jargon-free safe space.
Streets Ahead is co-hosted by Adam Tranter, Laura Laker and Ned Boulting.
Members of the Active Travel Academy are primarily based at UoW, although we work with national and international colleagues associated with the centre, both inside and outside academia. See the drop-down links to Members, Associates and ATA Alumni for more information. We host a collaborative interdisciplinary international open access journal, Active Travel Studies.
The Active Travel Podcast is here to explore all things active travel and micromobility via the latest research and thinking, and beyond. From media reporting of active travel, to data in active travel, to walking practices in the Global South, we also incorporate PhD research in active travel.
The University of Westminster also runs regular seminar/webinar series Walking@Teatime and Cycling@Teatime
Greenway and Cycleroutes Limited is a charitable organisation formed in January 2016 to help local groups to develop walking and cycling routes for and run by the local community. Its run my those 2 legends who funded Sustrans; John Grimshaw and Caroline Levett.
On 16 January 2025, John Grimshaw, one of the founding members, gave a fascinating talk on the history of his work, starting with Cyclebag, through Sustrans and ending with Greenways and Cycleroutes Ltd. Feel free to view and/or download the slides below. You can watch the video of the presentation on our Videos page.
Camcycle (the Cambridge Cycling Campaign) is a local charity which has been working for more, better and safer cycling in the Cambridge area since 1995. Our work is guided by the board of trustees and our staff team with much of what we do achieved by our dedicated volunteers. Many of the cycle facilities such as paths, lanes, traffic signals, bridges and cycle parks in the region would not exist without the campaigning of our members.
